you are jumping to conclusions by saying that russert is jumping to conclusions. how do you know about political activity at uva from missouri? i agree that the statement was not PC because it suggests either that students at other VA schools are not smart or that smart people vote for Obama. although it is not an appropriate thing to say on the news, i bet that if you break down the statistics, it is true that UVA students are the smartest (looking at GPAs/SATs) and that smart people vote for Obama(if you take a higher level of education, to be the equivalent to smart). additionally, political activity at UVA is very Obama heavy. there are several Obama offices that have opened, including one on the corner and obama supporters are going door to door and waiting outside harris teeter to encourage people to register to vote. this doesn't meant that there are not mccain supporters, it just means that they are not voicing their support as openly.
