Obamamania
"You get to see the One? I just hope you keep yourself hydrated and fed ... many a young lady (and possibly even some men) have been known to pass out in the presence of Obama." -My favorite Republican dishes out advice in preparation for Obama's visit to Columbia tonight ... thanks, Drea :)

Save The Date
"I may need to get married this weekend. Just a heads up. This school STILL has not gotten back to me about ABC ... I need health insurance and they're ignoring me ... So I may need to marry so I can have health insurance in 2009." -my lovely neighbor, forced into marriage by our often unresponsive journalism school. Now, if she can only find an insured man between now and Saturday ...

MCM 2008
"Running is the perfect fit for a lot of regular, everyday people. And the marathon is the perfect goal, because it requires so much thought and preparation." -Super-speedy runner Alisa Harvey, as quoted in yesterday's Washington Post. Good luck to all those running the Marine Corps Marathon this morning! Wish I was there, too.

A 1907 Love Letter
"Are you married or unmarried? If you are unmarried, you can have a good home with me. My wife died last year and I want another wife. If you can come to me I will send you a ticket and travel money for the spring when it will be good weather. You must wonder who I am. My name is Einar, who worked for Adolf Johanson, and you were my first girl-friend." -part of a letter from a Swedish immigrant to a woman in his home country. Poor guy, he sounds desperate.

Writer's Block
"I've never done TV because I have a face made for radio." -a professor, who then proceeded to Google his name plus "handsome," which returned 14 results. His response: "Not bad for an ugly guy like me." Too bad I actually think he's kinda cute.

"A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us." -Franz Kafka
Currently housing a small arsenal, thanks to my Mass Media literature review on the Swedish Immigrant Press in America. Hmm, could be dangerous.

Straight from the Crystal Ball
"He told me to congratulate you on your admission to the masters in journalism program at Missouri-Columbia. That's just a fantastic school for journalism - and it's no easy task to be accepted. You are to be applauded." -email from the Director of Communications at UVA's Center for Politics, in response to my email asking Professor Larry Sabato which way Missouri will swing in the upcoming election. Loving the UVA love :)

A Runner's World
"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." -did lots of running yesterday at Wilson's Half Marathon Challenge. I even received a coaster (?!) for placing third in my age group. Results here.

Size Matters?
Most random email from my mother: "Interesting fact for the day: We have always thought that Sal's tail was unusually long - we confirmed it last night - Sal's tail is 15" long and Mr. Lewis's tail is only 12" long - how long is Winkley's???"
Unfortunately Wink wouldn't sit still long enough for me to measure her tail. I'm thinking 10" though. Any other cat owners out there care to participate in this o-so-scientific study?!
